The history of Zakłady Azotowe Chorzów since the beginning of its existence is connected with the production of fertilizer. In March 1915 the German government signed an agreement with Bayerische Stickstoffwerke and the construction of two nitrogen factories in Poland, including our Company. The production was to cover the demand of the then market for artificial fertilizers, and the main product was "Nitrate" obtained by reaction with carbide, also obtained in Chorzów.
In 1922 the factory was incorporated into the Polish state. The board of directors was headed by Professor Ignacy Mościcki, and Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski became technical director. Despite production difficulties caused by hiding some of the technical documentation and dismantling the equipment, production was quickly restored, to reach a record production of 163,000 tonnes of nitric oxide already in 1929.
The first merger with the Tarnów plant took place in 1933. That year, the Mościce plant began its production.
